The Other Film Festival Screening

On Thursday 6 February, 8:00pm - 9:30pm at Footscray Community Arts Centre, The Other Film Festival presented a selection of some of the best contemporary Australian and international short films concerned with the lived experience of disability. All films were captioned and audio described. The introduction and post-screening discussion was AUSLAN interpreted.  The session was was introduced by the festival’s director, Rick Randall. The 60 minute screening of films was followed by a 20 minute discussion.

AUSTISTIC DISSONANCE Eric Bent, 4 min, Animation, Canada
A young animator’s confusing experiences of growing up with autism.

BEAUTIFUL Genevieve Clay-Smith, 2010, 13 min, Drama, Australia
Two people with intellectual disabilities navigate new challenges when their relationship is suddenly on display.

10:4 Guy Natanel, 2011, 6 min, Documentary, UK
Exploring one man’s blindness through the textures and sounds that surround him.

SUNNY BOY Jane Gull, 2011, 12 min, Drama, UK
Danny has a rare, photo-sensitive skin condition but he risks everything to be a regular teenager.

JUST BE FRANK Elise Bialylew, 2010, 15 min, Documentary Australia
Blind jazz singer, Frank Senior, adjusts to his new dog on the busy streets of New York.

The Other Film Festival is produced and presented by Arts Access Victoria, the state’s leading arts and disability organisation with 40 years’ experience managing community cultural development projects. The organisation pursues an agenda of inclusion and participation in the arts for people with a disability.

The festival acknowledges the obligations arising from the Disability Discrimination Act, the National Arts and Disability Strategy and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Persons with Disability.

The Other Film Festival is supported by the City of Melbourne, Screen Australia and Film Victoria.
